This bridge is one of the longer viaducts that approach the famed MacArthur Bridge, and contains a rather unique span.

This structure was completed in 1928 to allow railroad access to the bridge. It contains a single truss span, along with numerous through and deck girder approach spans.
These spans are set onto concrete and steel substructures.

While the bridge is double tracked for its entire length, only one track remains in use.
The main span is a Pratt Deck Truss with riveted connections. This heavy truss span is situated at Chouteau Avenue and 1st Street, and crosses a building.
The viaduct does connect to Viaduct #1, near the west end of the MacArthur Bridge. The south end of this bridge connects to a large Union Pacific yard.

The author has ranked the bridge as moderate significant, due to the newer age and the much less unique structure than its counterpart in East Saint Louis (Viaduct #2).
